Firefighters rescued six people after a fire broke out at Suits Nightclub, the adult entertainment venue in the historic Plaza Hotel location in downtown Kingston.
The fire started just before 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2025, which is when crews from Kingston Fire & Rescue stations were dispatched to the nightclub, located at 46 Montreal Street. When firefighters arrived on scene, flames were visible from the rear of the building as smoke filled the downtown core. Firefighters entered the building and proceeded to the third floor to extinguish the fire, according to the local fire department.
“During suppression efforts, six residents were rescued,” Kingston Fire & Rescue told Kingstonist the following day.
According to those on the scene during the fire, at least one pet was also rescued from the building.
Though Kingston Police attended the scene and remained there most of the night securing the closure of Montreal Street between Queen and Princess Streets, Constable Anthony Colangeli, Media Relations Officer for Kingston Police, said there was no criminal element to the fire investigation as of Thursday, Nov. 27, 2025.
The roadway was reopened to traffic just after 6 a.m. on Thursday.
According to Kingston Fire & Rescue, firefighters remained on scene once the fire was extinguished as crews “investigated for any further fire extension,” while monitoring for hot spots and flare-ups.
Fire Prevention Officers were brought in to “determine the cause of the incident,” the damages from which are estimated at $500,000, the fire department relayed.
Luckily, there were no injuries.
Kingston Fire & Rescue did not respond to questions regarding how many people were displaced and whether the business will be able to reopen, and the cause of the fire remained unknown at time of publication.
“City departments and community partners were on site to assist displaced residents,” Kingston Fire & Rescue said.
