LAKEWOOD, Ohio – Studio West 117 Fieldhouse announced via social media that it will close this month.
Therecreation, entertainment and dine-and-drink spot opened in 2022. It took an inclusive approach and promoted itself as a haven for LGBTQ+ individuals.
Last day will be Sunday, Dec. 28, the Instagram post said.

According to the post:
“While these circumstances are difficult, they do not diminish the impact this space has had or the ongoing need for places where LGBTQ+ people and allies can gather, create, and belong.
“We encourage community partners, leaders, and neighbors across Greater Cleveland to continue investing in inclusive spaces and organizations that reflect and protect our community’s vibrancy, and to imagine new, innovative ways to support and expand resources for LGBTQ+ people. The need is more urgent than ever.”
Opened by Daniel Budish and Betsy Figgie, Studio West 117 flew a progressive Pride flag at
1384 Hird Ave. in Lakewood. Its name comes from its location; it sits a block west of West 117th Street. The 1892 building was refurbished with a gymnasium, a deck and dining and drinking spots. It hosted karaoke, drag shows, trivia and other events.
Muse was the first-floor restaurant with 150 seats plus 50 to 75 outside. At the opening, Trellis was billed as Lakewood’s only rooftop bar with cabana rentals on the spacious patio. And Eat Me Pizza offered slices.
The full gym accommodated multiple sports for casual users and leagues – basketball, volleyball, pickleball and dodgeball – and was open to anyone. It also offered group exercises, yoga classes, a walking track and other events.
