Taylor Swift appeared to be headed for some career drama that threatened to overshadow husband-to-be Travis Kelce’s big decision, but a music legend who sparked the controversy has cooled tensions.
Kelce announced this week that he would be returning to the Kansas City Chiefs for another season, ending speculation on whether he could head off to retirement. While Kelce was earning some attention for his big career decision, Swift was embroiled in some drama over remarks from fellow musician Jack White of the White Stripes.
But White has since clarified the remarks, which were initially taken as a shot at Swift, and ended the drama before it started.
Taylor Swift Caught in Controversy Over Misinterpreted Remark
White talked about Swift’s writing style in an interview with The Guardian, saying her approach to songwriting differed from his own. As White was saying that he couldn’t tap into emotion the same way as Swift, some outlets interpreted his remarks as a shot at the “Opalite” singer.
White quickly addressed the issue, taking to Instagram on Monday to say in a since-deleted post that he meant no disrespect toward Swift.
“Putting this up for a day and then taking down to just put this to bed,” White wrote, via Rolling Stone. “I didn’t say that I think Taylor Swift’s music was ‘boring’ or whatever click bait the net is trying to scrape together. What I was trying to say in an interview I did about poetry and lyric writing, was that I don’t find it interesting at all for ME to write about MYSELF in my own lyric writing and poetry because I think that it could be repetitive for ME to always write about and It could be uninteresting for people who listen to my music to delve into, and that imaginary characters are more attractive to me as a writer.”
Travis Kelce’s Time in the Spotlight
White’s statement came on Monday, clearing the way for Kelce to get attention for his announcement about returning to the Chiefs. The future Hall of Fame tight end shared a brief statement while promoting his “New Heights” podcast.
“HE’S BAAAAAAACK,” the show posted.
The show also shared a video of Travis yelling, “Let’s goooo!” and a caption, “#ChiefsKingdom how we feeling?”
In an appearance on his “New Heights” podcast earlier this year, Kelce said he didn’t want to end his career with one of the worst seasons in recent memory for the Chiefs.
