Ten worst lists remain de trop in today’s film critic culture. But the older I get, the less time I have on this Earth. So, this list is the toll these movies paid for wasting some of the precious few hours I have left.
Here are the 10 worst movies of 2025.
10. “Marty Supreme”
Timothée Chalamet begs for an Oscar while playing the most obnoxious and insufferable character to pick up a ping pong paddle since Forrest Gump.
9. “The Alto Knights”
Double Robert De Niros don’t double your fun in Barry Levinson’s godawful gangster drama. Michael B. Jordan did it better.
8. “Materialists”
This depressing, cynical attack on rom-coms is proof you should never trust a movie’s advertising.

7. “Drop”
My review said it best: “The absurd plot twists in ‘Drop,’ might be tolerable if the film weren’t so distastefully tethered to domestic violence.”

6. “Honey Don’t!”
This sunshine noir from one of the Coen brothers is so bad, the comma resigned from its title.
5. “The Phoenician Scheme”
Like Tyler Perry, Wes Anderson keeps making the same bad movie over and over again. But only Wes gets a pass from critics.
4. “Peter Hujar’s Day”
When a talky movie moves so slowly that it makes “My Dinner With Andre” look like “Mad Max: Fury Road,” it deserves a spot on this list.
3. “After the Hunt”
According to this embarrassing attempt at provocation, getting tenure at Yale requires you to be the worst person in the world. Talk about an odd use of product placement!

2. “Eleanor the Great”
Scarlett Johansson directs June Squibb in this reprehensible movie about Eleanor, a woman who lies about being a Holocaust survivor. Eleanor’s excuse? She was lonely!
1. “HIM”
Footballs are not scary. Neither is Marlon Wayans, who plays psycho Tom Brady in this dreadful horror misfire.
Odie Henderson is the Boston Globe’s film critic.
