One woman is questioning whether she made the right call after ending things with a guy she’d been casually dating, all because of his constant last-minute cancellations.
In a post on Reddit, the 22-year-old explained that when they first started seeing each other, everything felt easy. They hung out a couple of times a week, grabbed dinner, watched movies and went on walks. “It wasn’t anything super serious, but it was consistent and enjoyable,” she wrote.
But over time, his behavior shifted. He began canceling plans more frequently — often an hour before they were supposed to meet. Sometimes he said he was “tired.” Other times, he’d claim “something came up” or that a friend needed him. At first, she tried to be patient. “People have lives, bad days, unexpected things,” she explained. But what started as occasional excuses quickly became the norm.
There were several days when she had already gotten ready, rearranged her schedule or turned down other invitations, only for him to cancel with little explanation. Still, she kept trying to be understanding.
After yet another cancellation, this time without any real context, she said she hit her limit. She told him she didn’t think they should continue seeing each other because it felt like he no longer respected her time.
He didn’t take it well. According to the post, he accused her of being “too harsh” and “giving up too easily.” A couple of her friends also suggested she should have given him another chance or communicated more clearly. But she said she did communicate, and the behavior just never changed.

Now she’s left wondering if she overreacted or if she’s being “too picky.”
“I don’t expect perfection,” she wrote. “But I do expect basic respect and consistency.”
Since posting, hundreds of people have chimed in to share their thoughts on the situation. Many Reddit commenters overwhelmingly took her side, saying she made the right choice.
