Iditarod Ceremonial Start
10 a.m. Saturday; Downtown Anchorage
The 54th Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race kicks off this weekend with the ceremonial start in Anchorage. The first musher departs downtown at 10 a.m. and fans can view the race from a number of areas and, with mushers wrapping up near Campbell Tract in Far North Bicentennial Park. The Bureau of Land Management is commemorating the nation’s 250th anniversary with an event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Campbell Creek Science Center.
Tour of Anchorage
9 a.m. Sunday; Service High, APU/UAA and Kincaid Park
Anchorage’s annual race through the city’s trail system kicks off on Sunday. There are divisions for freestyle skiing, classic skiing and fat biking. Races start at Service High or at APU and finish at Kincaid Park. Online registration is closed, but in-person registration runs from noon-7 p.m. on Saturday at the Kincaid Park Chalet.
Fur Rendezvous
All weekend at locations throughout Anchorage
Billed as Anchorage’s iconic winter festival, the 91st Fur Rendezvous wraps up with its final weekend. The festival has everything from the Running of the Reindeer to snow sculptures and entertainment options like the Miners and Trappers Blizzard Bash and the Fur Rondy Melodrama. Great Alaska Sportsman Show
10 a.m.-7 p.m. Friday and Saturday; 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday; Sullivan Arena, 1600 Gambell St.
Alaska’s premier fishing, hunting and outdoor sports show runs for three days this weekend. Tickets are $13 for adults and $6 for seniors and kids age 13-17. Free admission for veterans, military members and kids 12 and under.
A Baroque Banquet
7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday; Anchorage Lutheran Church, 1420 N St.
The Alaska Chamber Singers continue their 40th season with a dive into the music of the Baroque era. It includes works by Henry Purcell, George Frideric Handel and J.S. Bach. Tickets are $40, or $35 for military members and seniors.
First Friday
Anchorage Museum: The museum hosts the opening of the annual Anchorage School District Elementary Art Show. This year’s theme is “The World Needs Art.” There are also stories from retired musher Rod Perry and race reporter Mel Kalkowski in the museum lobby from 6-8 p.m. The Anchorage Opera performs pieces from its 2025-26 season in the Art of the North galleries starting at 7 p.m. Also visit the Art Lab and Planetarium. 625 C St., free admission 6-9 p.m.
